Referrals

Demand for CAPS services requires CAPS to focus on what the campus needs most and what we are uniquely positioned to provide. Services for students who need long-term individual services or certain kinds of specialty care are provided by mental health providers and clinics in the Ithaca area. In addition, some students prefer to see a provider off-campus.

Whether you are seeking long-term counseling, specialty services, or short-term care, CAPS can make a referral to an approved community provider. Our referral manager can provide you with more information regarding your options, including finding a suitable provider in the Ithaca area. Each professional in our network is licensed and screened prior to becoming part of this select provider list.

Good health insurance, such as the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), can help you offset counseling costs. For those with limited resources, we are fortunate to have low-cost clinics in this community that provide quality care for Cornell students and their families. We can also connect you with Cornell resources that might be able to provide financial assistance.

Referrals to other campus support services

Given the size and scope of the Cornell campus, you may not have heard about all of the campus support services available. Our staff can help you identify resources, or connect you with mentors and peer support. Examples include academic or disability support services, religious/spiritual support, student resource centers and program houses, career services, the campus bias response team, the victim advocate, the Ombudsman's Office, etc. Please look at our list of campus partners or ask us about any special support you might be seeking.
