My bursar bill shows a charge for a date when I wasn’t even at Cornell. What is this charge for?
A.

The date on the bursar bill is the date Gannett sent the charge to the Bursar’s Office, not the date of service. If you have any questions regarding the actual date of the appointment being billed or about the charges in question, please contact Gannett’s Billing Office at 607 255-7492.

If I get birth control pills and put the charge on my bursar bill, what will it say on my bursar bill?
A.

All descriptions that are posted on the bursar bill are very general. For instance, birth control pills would show as “Pharmacy.” Other descriptions commonly used to refer to health expenses on the bursar bills include "Laboratory," "Radiology," "Clinic Visit," etc. CAPS visits and most regular medical appointments are listed "Gannett Student User Fee."

I'm interested in knowing how much a certain appointment, test, prescription, service, or supply costs. Can I find out about that before I come?
A.

Sure. Please call the Gannett Billing Office at 607 255-7492. We will be happy to give you current prices on any service we provide or product we sell. If you want to know about the availability or price of a particular medication or other pharmacy product, you can call the Gannett Pharmacy at 254-MEDS or 607 254-6337.

What insurance plans do you participate with?
A.

At present Gannett participates with:

  • The Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) offered by Aetna Student Health
  • Aetna Life Insurance Company
  • The Empire Plan (not to be confused with Empire Blue Cross/Blue Shield)
  • HealthNow

Given that members of the Cornell community carry over 1,800 health insurance programs, it is impossible for Gannett to honor them all. If your insurance plan is not among those listed above, you may wish to consider changing plans. For more information about the Student Health Insurance Plan, visit the Cornell University Office of Student Health Insurance.

How can I get reimbursed for my health care expenses at Gannett if I have an insurance plan Gannett does not participate with?
A.

You will need to get a receipt, either from the Gannett cashier (after your visit) or anytime from the Billing Office (located at Gannett on Level 5). Once you have the receipt, attach it to a completed claim form (provided by your insurance company), and submit it to them. For more detailed information about how to do this, please visit the section of our web site on Paying for Services at Gannett.

(From a parent) My son/daughter was seen Gannett, and I need a receipt to submit to my insurance company. Can you send one to me?
A.

We will be happy to send a receipt directly to you. If your son/daughter is 18 or older, by law we must have his/her permission to do so. Please ask your son/daughter contact us to sign a release so we can send you the information OR pick up his/her own copy of the receipt to send to you.

For more information about our approach to communication with parents and confidentiality/privacy issues, please read information for parents/guardians provided on this web site.

What is Gannett's tax ID number?
A.

If you have private insurance and need to complete billing paperwork, it is likely that you will be asked for Gannett’s tax ID number. It is 15-0532082.

I submitted a waiver for the student insurance, but the charge for the premium is still on my bursar bill. Can you fix this for me?
A.

The Cornell University Office of Student Health Insurance can help you with your questions and concerns about the Student Health Insurance Policy, charges, waiver process, appeal process, plan coverage, etc. You can reach them at 607 255-6363.

I got a bill from LabCorp but I had my laboratory work done at Gannett. What’s going on?
A.

Here at Gannett, we are fortunate to have a laboratory right on site that performs many of the diagnostic tests needed by Gannett patients. However, we do not have the facilities to do every lab test that is needed. If one of our clinicians orders a test for you that cannot be performed here at Gannett, we send the specimen to another lab (usually LabCorp) that will complete the test and charge you for their services.

Gannett will bill you for any tests that are done by our lab and for phlebotomy (blood draw) that is done here at Gannett.

LabCorp will bill you directly for any tests they perform for you.

For more information about laboratory services and fees, please visit the Laboratory page of this web site.

I've given you my new address, but I keep getting bills at my old one. What's up?
A.

Technology is our friend...most of the time. Sometimes, it makes life more complicated for all of us.

The student contact information in Gannett’s database is automatically updated every week by the Cornell Registrar. While we are able to change an address in our system, the change will be overwritten by the Registrar’s information the following week unless you change it there, too.

In order to fix the problem at the source, take two minutes to go to the CU Registrar’s “Student Center” page and confirm or change your address information. Be sure to update this information whenever you move.

Financial Assistance
for SHIP:

Cornell’s financial aid packages do not include the cost of the SHIP. If you receive financial aid, you may request an adjustment to your aid package (in extra loan or work eligibility) to cover this necessary educational cost. If you do not receive financial aid, you may be eligible for a loan to help cover the cost of SHIP. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid and Student Employment by phone (607 255-5145) or e-mail
