Who Can Use Gannett?

All members of the Cornell community—including students, student spouses or partners (same or other gender), faculty and staff, and postdoctoral fellows—are welcome to use Gannett services.

There are some restrictions:

  • You must be a full-time, registered student to use Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS).
  • During the summer, students who are not enrolled in the summer session but plan to enroll for fall semester may receive medical care on a fee-for-service basis. They are not eligible for CAPS services.
  • Students on leave from the university are not eligible to use Gannett services.
  • Though we are unable to serve as primary medical care providers for staff and faculty, we can provide allergy shots, immunizations, travel services, massage therapy, physical therapy, occupational health services,  pharmacy services (i.e., over-the-counter supplies and prescriptions), and care for acute illnesses and injuries.

All full-time registered students may use Gannett services whether they have private health insurance or Cornell’s Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP).

How does Gannett determine who is a registered student?

Gannett receives its information from the University Registrar database, which is updated weekly. If Cornell does not recognize an individual as an officially-registered student, then Gannett can only provide short-term medical services (at a non-student rate). In order for an individual to receive on-going medical and mental health care, she or he has to be registered.

If difficulties are preventing an individual from becoming registered, she or he should connect with the University Registrar as soon as possible in order to become eligible for the full range of services Gannett offers for students. An individual can call or visit the Office of the University Registrar (255-4232; B07 Day Hall). The Registrar staff can discuss the obstacles, help an individual make a plan, and change the database to indicate that she or he is now eligible for all the services Gannett provides for Cornell students.

If this process cannot be resolved promptly and a person's medical or mental health care is at stake, she or he may also wish to speak with a Gannett Patient Advocate.
