Hazing can be physically, mentally and/or emotionally harmful for students who are hazed or those who haze them. Individuals who have been hazed may experience injuries, depression, anxiety, or other trauma-related difficulties. Students who engage in hazing may feel guilt or remorse about their actions.
Gannett is committed to active participation in the creation of a climate that
supports bonding, friendship, and student community free from hazing activity.
We also provide confidential care and support for people affected (directly or
indirectly) by hazing activity.
In case of injury or illness immediately following or sometime after an incident, Gannett can provide medical evaluation and treatment. Call 255-5155 to schedule an appointment. We also can facilitate a referral to emergency or specialty care. In an emergency, call immediately for assistance.
For confidential support you can ask to speak to a counselor in Counseling and Psychological Services (255-5208). Emergency appointments are available every week-day. Call 255-5208 to schedule an appointment.
Our counselors also provide free, confidential consultation to friends or other members of the community. If you are concerned about a another student and want to talk with someone about behavior you are witnessing, things that the person has said, or ways to help or get the person to help, please call 255-5208.
You can reach a Gannett health care provider or counselor by phone anytime of day or night, even when Gannett Health Services is closed. We can listen, give advice, help you think about whether you (or someone else) needs care (now or later), and arrange transportation to health care, if necessary. You can call us from anywhere: 607 255-5155.
Gannett co-sponsors Cornell’s Victim Advocate Program. The Victim Advocate provides free and confidential assistance to any member of the Cornell community who has been the victim of a crime on or off campus. Its primary focus is to assist victims of assault, rape, and other sex offenses, and bias-related crimes or incidents.
You can reach the Victim Advocate by phone at 255-1212 or e-mail victimadvocate@cornell.edu. The Victim Advocate is available during Gannett’s regular hours on weekdays.
If you need advice after-hours or on weekdays, you can consult with the Gannett
on-call provider.
