Allergy Service
255-5155

Nurses in our Allergy Service are available to provide allergy shots by appointment for students and other members of the Cornell community. We have allergy clinic hours set aside for just this purpose. Patients tell us they appreciate the ease and convenience of being able to get allergy injections on campus.

New allergy patients

You will need to consult directly with an allergist for testing and treatment recommendations.

  • If you have the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), you will need a referral from a Gannett clinician before you can consult with an allergist who is a Preferred Provider in the community. (Getting the referral will allow you to obtain maximum insurance coverage for the visit.)
  • If you do NOT have SHIP, your primary care provider can make such a referral for you.

If your allergist recommends shots, he/she will get you started on an appropriate serum. Once you injections have become stabilized, the regular administration of your shots (weekly, biweekly, etc.) can be transferred to Gannett. (See "Getting allergy shots at Gannett, below.) Many members of the Cornell community benefit from the convenience of this service every year.

Getting allergy shots at Gannett

For your first visit to the Allergy Service, you will need to make a 15 minute appointment by calling 255-5155. At this time, the nurse will make sure that we have all the information we need for safe administration of your injections. You must provide your own vaccine (which will be stored at Gannett), as well as written orders from your physician that include:

  • your diagnosis
  • content and dilution of serum
  • interval of injection
  • recommended dosage
  • suggested dosage reductions for new vials
  • dosage adjustment for late or missed shots
  • previous reactions, if any
  • special instructions for managing non-emergency reactions

Your subsequent visits, will be relatively quick and—if not entirely painless—easy! Book your appointments in advance, and be sure to arrive on time. You will check in on Level 3 of Gannett and wait in the main level waiting room until your name is called. Over time, you will get to know each of the friendly nurses who provide this service. If you have questions or concerns, you can either ask one of the nurses or direct your question to our e-mail
