Physicals, annual gynecological (GYN) exams, and non-urgent health concerns (e.g., skin problems, back or joint pain, sleep problems, and medication refills) are considered routine medical appointments, and may be scheduled 7-10 days from the time that you call. In some cases (e.g., physicals, and GYN exams) you will be asked to complete a specific health history form before your appointment.
For more urgent health concerns that cannot wait for a routine appointment, call as early in the day as possible to schedule an appointment that will fit into your plans for the day.
For an appointment with any of our specialty medical services, call ahead to schedule an appointment at a convenient time. Specialty medical services include allergy shots, immunizations, HIV antibody testing, nutrition/eating concerns, sports medicine, occupational medicine, travel services, etc.
Psychiatry appointments are scheduled by Gannett's Counseling and Psychological Services at 255-5208. (Enrolled students only.)
If you need advice about whether or when you need an appointment, call 255-5155 and ask to speak with a nurse.
Make a list of your symptoms. Tell your health care provider when the symptoms began, how they have progressed, and any changes you have noticed.
Be prepared to answer a series of questions about your health history, allergies, habits, and use of medications, etc. Please understand that good medical care requires us to ask women if they may be pregnant, to ensure that X-rays or medications will not pose risks to a developing fetus.
Feel free to ask questions about your symptoms, prognosis, follow-up care, side effects of treatments, costs, sources of support, or any personal concerns.
Bring a friend, when needed, for personal support or assistance with transportation.
If you need a translator, tell us when you make your appointment, and we will make arrangements.
If you need other special accommodations, please let us know.
Student volunteers are trained to provide confidential support. If you don't want a volunteer to be involved with your care, please tell the receptionist when you check in for your appointment.
Know your rights and responsibilities as a patient.
Give us your signed permission, if you would like us to talk with someone (a parent, guardian, partner, or friend). Remember, we do not share any of your personal health information with friends or family without your permission.
After-hours, on weekends, and during break periods, a Gannett health care provider is available for telephone consultation. Call 607 255-5155.
