The Allyn B. Ley Laboratory, located on Level 2 of Gannett, is licensed by the New York State Department of Health and is CLIA certified for "Highly Complex Testing."

Our experienced staff of NYS licensed laboratory technologists work closely with other members of Gannett's health care team to perform diagnostic tests essential to your care. If you need specialized tests that cannot be performed at on-site, will will help you make arrangements to get them elsewhere.

If you have any questions or concerns about our processes or your own feelings about them, please talk with us. We will work with you so you can be as comfortable and confident as possible.

Notification of test results

We want to make sure you understand how we handle test results at Gannett.

Gannett will contact you:

– if your lab test(s) are normal
– if your test indicates an abnormality

Please contact Gannett to alert your provider:

– if you are away in the next week
– if you have a change of address or phone number

– if you are expecting rapid strep results

Laboratory fees

People often have questions about paying for lab tests. If your clinician recommends that you get certain lab tests, and you are worried about paying for them, please discuss your concerns with your clinician. Together, you can make choices about how to proceed. Gannett's Billing Office staff can also be helpful. Those with the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) should talk with the Cornell Office of Student Health Insurance. 

Lab bills

  • If your lab test is done at the Gannett laboratory, you will get a bill from Gannett. If you have SHIP, your Gannett lab bills will be submitted directly.
  • If your blood is drawn at Gannett, but the actual test is done by another lab (called a "reference lab"), you will get two bills: one from Gannett to cover the cost of the phlebotomist (the person who draws your blood) and one from the reference lab for the actual testing.

Filling outside lab orders

Our lab performs diagnostic tests ordered by Gannett clinicians. We also accept outside physicians' orders. Please talk with a lab technician at Gannett to understand associated requirements and fees.
