Sharps Containers

"Sharps" containers are specially made for disposal of used needles and syringes. They are typically made of hard plastic so that needles cannot poke through. If you use injectables, such as syringes for insulin, please purchase a Sharps container from the Gannett Pharmacy and then return it when full to dispose of these items safely. (There is no charge for disposal.)

Note: The Gannett Pharmacy sells two sizes of sharps containers.

Important Public Health Message

The safe disposal of needles is important to the well-being of our campus community. In 2002, Gannett staff developed a poster highlighting the importance of using sharps containers and/or other sturdy collection containers. Our staff work with members of Cornell's Department of Campus Life to ensure its distribution on campus. If you live in an area that could benefit from the posting of this message, feel free to print your own copy of the Safe Needle Disposal poster and place it next to trash and recycling bins, or in other public areas.
