"Collectively, as a university community, we must value diversity and inclusion and reject both active and passive discrimination. Progress toward achieving our goals will require not only committed work by university leadership, but also your active participation. Our future strength requires it."
--David Skorton, president of Cornell University

Gannett is committed to providing quality care to all members of the Cornell community who rely on our services. We recognize that race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, culture and socio-economic status may affect the health of an individual and/or influence an individual's healthcare choices. With that in mind, every individual member of our staff strives to be sensitive to the individual needs of those who rely on us for care. Our commitment is to meet each person with interest, respect, sensitivity, and compassion. We invite you to share who you are, what concerns you, and what matters to you, and to help us learn from you and with you.
An integral part of our commitment is the on-going effort to promote health initiatives that enhance and improve Gannett's services to the diverse population we serve. We do this in a variety of ways:
- staff training that provides opportunities for staff to enhance, not only our knowledge and skills, but also our multi-cultural competency so we can provide comprehensive, integrated, and individually- and population-sensitive services
- outreach counseling and support services designed to assist communities who may not access traditional support services (e.g., Let's Talk)
- outreach information to address concerns and needs of special populations
- a Patient Advocacy program where patients, clients, or other users of Gannett can find aid regarding questions, needs, concerns, or problems
- a special "language line" to offer interpretation in over 170 languages to assist patients and clients in understanding health care issues
- financial assistance for students for whom financial challenges may pose an obstacle to receiving needed health care
- services for people affected (directly or indirectly) by bias-related incidents.
- a public statement on Patient/Client Rights and Responsibilities regarding healthcare at Gannett
- surveys that provide information about students' health concerns, as well as feedback about the quality of care and services at Gannett
- focus groups with many populations (such as students of color and international students) to help identify environmental and service barriers with the goal of making Gannett a more welcoming place to all
- on-going efforts to attract a diverse pool of qualified candidates for every open position at Gannett
- partnership with other departments on campus, such as the International Students and Scholars Office, Office of Academic Diversity Initiatives, COSEP advisors, Cornell United Religious Work, Women's Resource Center, Student Disability Services, Student Development and Diversity Initiatives, Asian/Asian American Resource Center, and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center, so there is consistent communication, training and outreach regarding specific healthcare needs
- co-sponsorship of various events and initiatives
We welcome your concerns, questions, or suggestions regarding Gannett's commitment to inclusiveness. Please contact us by phone (607 255-3564) or e-mail.
