The Cornell Healthy Eating Program (CHEP) at Gannett was formalized in 2001. It comprises nutrition services within Gannett as well as outreach to Cornell students and staff in the form of consultation, workshops, training and programs relating to nutrition and eating problems.
The overall goal of CHEP Outreach is to optimize student health and performance through good nutrition knowledge and practice. CHEP also works to promote a positive environment on campus regarding attitudes toward food, body image, and body weight.
CHEP provides information about eating problems, including how to identify eating problems and how to refer students to treatment, when needed. This information can be obtained in workshop format or can be individually tailored to address specific situations as they occur. See also “How to Help a Friend.”
CHEP facilitates access to treatment for nutrition and eating problems by increasing available and affordable treatment options at Gannett and by networking with other departments on campus to streamline referrals.
CHEP staff can help to design workshops and trainings for students and staff on many nutrition topics, including the following:
CHEP can help arrange a guest speaker, suggest a video for discussion, or help plan a bulletin board for your residence hall, department or community. You can learn more about these CHEP resources elsewhere on our site.
CHEP collaborates with other campus groups in bringing nationally known speakers and promoting programs on campus and locally.
In addition to the assistance described above, CHEP provides consultation to student or staff groups and departments in developing policies and guidelines relating to food, nutrition, and eating problems.
