The hormonal methods require a prescription and a clinician visit. Call and ask for a contraception-only appointment (255-5155) if you are only interested in obtaining a contraceptive method. There is no requirement that you have a gynecological/pelvic examination in order to obtain hormonal contraception at Gannett.
For some women, hormonal methods are contraindicated because of health conditions or family history. Your clinician will consult with you at the time of your visit about whether hormonal methods can be used safely and effectively.
Remember: Hormonal methods provide no protection against sexually transmissible infections.

There are many different Pill brands containing different combinations or individual hormones. Your clinician will consult with you to determine the best pill for you, based on your health history, family history, and other indicators.

This easy-to-use method may be a better option for women who want a hormonal method, but have difficulty remembering to take birth control pills daily. Implanon is a thin, flexible matchstick-like rod inserted by a trained clinician
into the skin of the underarm. The rod contains progestin which suppresses ovulation
and thickens cervical mucus. It can remain in place for up to three years.

Emergency contraceptive pills consist of 2 doses of hormone pills (taken within 12 hours of one another) which are started within 5 days of unprotected vaginal intercourse.
Emergency contraception can be obtained at the Gannett Pharmacy (without a prescription if over 18 years of age) during regular business hours. If under 18 years of age, call Gannett for a prescription for EC (255-5155).
