There are many contraceptive options for men and women available at Gannett. Some require a clinician visit for a prescription, some do not. Choosing a contraceptive method is a personal decision. Some of the things you may want to think about when choosing a method that will work for you include:
Convenience
Some methods require a routine use; others must be used just prior to sexual
intimacy. Some are easily portable, others not, etc.
Cost
Depending on level of sexual activity and financial ability, some may be more
cost-effective than others.
Comfort and familiarity with your body
Some methods require insertion or familiarity with reproductive parts in order
to be used properly.
Partner involvement
Some methods can be used discreetly, some require insertion just prior to intercourse
Effectiveness
No method is perfect, but for some, human error may play more of a role in jeopardizing
effectiveness than it does in others. Furthermore, some methods are effective in reducing the risk of transmitting STIs (sexually
transmissable infections). Others, particularly hormonal methods, are not.
If this is the first time you are choosing a contraceptive method, you may want to take advantage of a free visit with a Gannett Clinical Counselor who can explain the advantages and disadvantages of each method and help you decide which is right for you.
