H.E.R.S. (Herpes Education Resources, & Support)

Are you a Cornell woman who:

  • Was recently diagnosed with herpes?
  • Has been living with herpes, but having difficulty coping?
  • Is wanting to meet other women who have herpes in order to discuss feelings and concerns?
  • Finds herself avoiding relationships, sex, or fearing intimacy since being diagnosed?
  • Needs a listening, empathetic ear, and the support of others who are managing their infection?

If so, you are not alone. And this new group may offer you the information and support you’re seeking.

Joining the group: Prospective H.E.R.S. group members must make a 30 minute appointment with Clinical Counselor, Barbara Jastran, RN, MSW before being admitted to the group. If you call to make your appointment (607 255-6448), be sure to let Gannett’s scheduling staff know that you “have an interest in being screened for the H.E.R.S. Group.” Group members are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Privacy and confidentiality are essential to creating a safe space in which this group will function. If you are concerned about this issue, however, please discuss this with Barbara at the time of your appointment.

The H.E.R.S. group currently meets bi-weekly at Gannett (subject to change upon request from group members).

There is no charge.
