What's Free at Gannett? What's Not?

While healthcare costs are soaring, Gannett strives to keep costs as low as possible. We stock a wide variety of free information such as brochures, posters, etc. that can help you learn about health topics and be a more informed healthcare consumer.

The following guide should provide some information about what is free and what is available at the lowest possible cost we can offer:

What is free?

  • Sexuality Counseling
  • Limited sexual health supplies (condoms and lube). Ask at the reception desks or come to Health Promotion, level 3.
  • Health brochures and posters available at Health Promotion, level 3, Gannett or in the stairwells in Gannett
  • Videos on various health topics for loan
  • Consultation with a Health Promotion Specialist on health resources and technical assistance with program planning
  • Victim Advocacy Services
  • Patient Advocacy Services
  • Free, anonymous rapid HIV-testing is available off-campus through the Tompkins County Health Dept. (274-6683). Call the Health Dept. directly for information about test days and sites. Bus schedules to downtown sites can be found at the TCAT website.

What is not?

Sexual health medical care, examinations, STI diagnostic testing, etc. are covered under most insurance plans. Students on the Cornell Student Health Insurance Plan can find a complete description of SHIP coverage.

STI (sexually transmissible infection) screening:

Most insurance plans will not cover STI testing when there are no symptoms. Talk to your healthcare provider about the laboratory costs associated with STI testing in this case. You may be interested in STI screening because:

  • You think you may have been exposed to an STI.
  • You are starting a new relationship.
  • You have wondered whether you have a disease (but are symptom free).

HIV Antibody Testing at Gannett is confidential. The cost for the blood test is $25* and  Orasure (oral swab) is $45* (*prices are subject to change). See above for free, anonymous testing through the Tompkins County Health Department.

Safer sex supplies are sold at very reasonable prices in the Gannett Pharmacy

For a better understanding of the costs involved in sexual healthcare such as examinations, lab fees, medical supplies, prescriptions, etc. please see Gannett Fees and Insurance.
