The Pre-Medical Community Mentorship Program gives selected Cornell students the opportunity to observe—up close—some of the realities of the medical profession. Spending two half days shadowing a Tompkins County physician, students are connected with a mentor who can answer questions about opportunities in the diverse field of medicine and preparation for a medical career. This program is offered for Cornell undergraduates seriously considering a career in medicine.
Most students spend one half day in a physician's medical practice, observing clinic flow and patient contacts. A second half day may be in the office setting or at Cayuga Medical Center observing surgery, procedures, and/or in-patient care in the hospital setting.
This program is a joint effort of Gannett Health Services, Cayuga Medical Center, and the Tompkins County Medical Society. Eligible applicants include members of the following undergraduate organizations:
Students who are not affiliated with the above organizations, but who are interested in pursuing medicine as a career, may also apply.
Applications can be downloaded here (pdf). Additional information is available from the club officers or sponsors of the participating groups. Applications are DUE MAY 8th at NOON. Please submit your completed application to Health Promotion, Level 3, Gannett Health Services.
Mandatory training sessions
All applicants must be available to attend two mandatory evening orientation sessions (scheduled for September 1 and September 3, 2009) in the Moore Library (Level 5 Gannett Health Services).
